A rock, quite literally, is magma that has solidified into an object which is known as a rock. All rocks come from within the earth, inside the mantle. Rocks that are crystallized magma are called igneous, sedimentary are formed from small particles of igneous rocks compressed together and metamorphic are either rock which are subjected to heat and pressure underground altering them chemically.
